Gifted Identification

At Fox Creek, we are committed to making sure that all students have equitable access to the programming that they need to continue to grow and learn at their potential.  In order to ensure this for our gifted learners, we use the following processes to identify gifted learners:

Universal Screening: All students have the opportunity to participate in a universal screening process for identification in both 2nd and 6th grades.  The CogAT Assessment (assesses cognitive ability) is used for this process.  More Information.

Gifted Referral:  to initiate the gifted identification process students may be referred at any time by teachers, parents or themselves.  To initiate the gifted referral process, fill out the referral form linked HERE.  This will notify the gifted facilitator at Fox Creek to begin the identification process.

Identification Process

Douglas County's ongoing identification process looks at multiple criteria for gifted identification including:

  • Cognitive ability

  • Student performance and achievement

  • Parent, teacher, and student feedback

After a student is referred, the following process will be followed to gain a comprehensive look through student data as he/she is potentially considered for a Gifted Identification.
